I am often asked to recommend "real" books on the subject of shell scripting. It is not a request that I find easy to answer; I have yet to read a dead-tree book on the subject which really stands out.
However, I do understand the need for physical copies of books ( though a $9.99 ebook is always a good idea!)
Going back to the dead-tree options; I do like most of the O'Reilly publications. Generally, though, there have not been many really good books on the subject.
In the mean time, here are some suggestions:
Strictly speaking, this is offtopic, but every UNIX guru needs to own K&R's C book.
