Selected Printed Literature

Considering how common DSPS is, there is not much literature about it. At the same time, there is enough to keep you busy for a while. If you have DSPS, read as much as you can about it because the more you understand it, the more control you will have over your life.

Books

  1. Ferber, Richard. Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1985. This book for parents is available in many bookstores and public libraries.
  2. Coleman, Richard M. Wide Awake at 3:00 a.m. By Choice or By Chance? New York: W.H. Freeman and Company, 1996.
  3. Wagner, D. "Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome" Handbook of Sleep Disorders. Ed. Michael J. Thorpy. New York: Dekker, 1990, pp. 498-504. Very clear and sometimes funny. There are also several other chapters about circadian rhythms and the other circadian rhythm disorders.
  4. Lamberg, Lynne. Bodyrhythms - Chronobiology and Peak Performance. New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc., 1994.
  5. Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine in the Child. Ferber, R. and Kryger, M., eds. Philadelphia: W.B. Saunders Company, 1995.

Journals

Most of these references are for a medical audience. Nearly all, however, discuss the impact of DSPS on people's lives, as well as just giving clinical descriptions. The more technical ones are marked with an asterisk * or two **. The journals listed here are easier to find in university biomedical libraries and in hospital libraries than in public libraries
